Horizontal Dewatering Solutions (Dewatering Trenchers)

Horizontal dewatering equipment is designed to temporarily lower the groundwater table to a controlled depth. This technique is widely utilized in construction sites across the USA and Europe, particularly where high water tables may impede the construction of foundations, basements, or the installation of sewer and water lines. In Europe, horizontal dewatering plays a crucial role in nearly all pipeline projects involving the underground installation of gas and oil pipelines. Unlike vertical well-point systems, horizontal dewatering involves the installation of drainage pipes horizontally just beneath the area to be dewatered.

Key Benefits of Horizontal Dewatering:

  • Underground System: The majority of the horizontal dewatering system remains underground, allowing for unrestricted movement of excavators and other machinery across the worksite.
  • Significant Water Savings: This method achieves considerable reductions in water usage.
  • Simplicity of Installation: Horizontal dewatering systems are relatively easy to install.

Installation Process for Horizontal Dewatering:

The installation of horizontal dewatering systems is a straightforward process. It begins with the use of a trencher to lay an unperforated pipe, followed by a synthetic or organic-wrapped perforated pipe. The length of the drain is determined based on factors such as drain diameter, soil conditions, and the groundwater table. Typically, drain lengths of around 50 meters are common.

Once the drainpipe is installed, a pump is connected, allowing for the extraction of water. Once the groundwater level has been sufficiently lowered, construction can commence. After the project is completed, the pumps can be turned off, allowing the water table to rise back to its natural level.

Installation Depths:

Common installation depths for horizontal dewatering systems can reach up to 6 meters. While it is possible to install at greater depths, this option tends to be more costly.
